Do I need chain and if so how much?

How well do they work in mud or shaly bottoms?
Because our anchors dig deeper than most, if not all other anchors, they perform well in a variety of sea beds. There are however some areas where no small anchor will work well.
Will the plastic anchor sink?
Yes, there is a heavy weight in the tip of our nylon anchor.
